VIP: Volunteering Improves People
People volunteer for many different reasons. Volunteers gain valuable skills while helping the environment and
community. I personally enjoy volunteering because I know that I am making a difference. Unfortunately, many
people nowadays do not volunteer because they do not know where to start or what to do. This is why I came up
with the idea to create a volunteer program for people of all ages with different interests: "Volunteering Improves
People". I intend to recruit people in the community to become VIP members. Yes, all volunteers are very
important people in my eyes. I truly believe that volunteering improves people.
If chosen as Miss White Rock Lake, I plan on expanding the volunteer opportunites for the city. In doing so, I
would like to go into different schools, radio stations and local news stations to promote volunteerism. I would put
myself out there in creating this project to help inspire people to volunteer. I would love to guide people into
volunteer work that interests them most.
The program would be divided into three age groups. The first age group would be Kindergarten - 6th Grade. I
would help students get involved by creating volunteer opportunities within the school. I would like to make sure
that every school had the opportunity to make the effort to promote the need for volunteerism. My second age
group would be the 7th- 12th grades. With this teenage program I would create a contest in the school and could
ask local businesses to donate a $100 cash prize for each grade. The last age group would be 18 and older. With
the older group I would create a VIP web based program for people to choose some form of volunteering that
interest them most. On top of that, I believe that going into radio stations and news stations would help the older
ones become involved. In promoting this program, I would advertise in the local newspaper just to get the word
out. Volunteering improves people; therefore, personally I can lead by example by volunteering at the Children's
Medical Center hospital in Dallas and with other organizations.
In funding this program, my parents, who own two family owned businesses, have offered to help me start out. I
would also ask local businesses for any donations they wish to give. I believe that the community will have a
positive response to my program. Volunteerism is one of my many passions, thus I feel that it would be my
mission to represent the great state of Texas as well as getting people involved in several communities.
Volunteering has improved me as a person, and I would like to share that experience with others so that
volunteering can improve them as well.
